And what 1st birthday party would be complete without a brain smash cake?
You’re too little to make me Mother’s Day macaroni necklaces and write cute poems about me from school but that’s okay. I can wait. Being with you every day has been more than enough. I’m fine with starting the day with your bed hair, sleepy smiles and sweet cuddles. I’m good with just watching you enjoy new foods and try to sneakily give some of your meal to the dogs. I’m even okay cleaning up after you because it reminds me of how alive you are and the mess you leave is just a happy memory you left behind. I look forward to your little arms squeezing me every day, watching you booty shake whenever you hear a song or a jingle, random snark face and hearing you shriek with laughter when we tip you upside down. What I’ve learned from this past year is that control is absolutely beyond me and that’s okay. We somehow created this perfect little being and I’m continually floored at your growth without my hand in it at all. On top of that, you’ve given me a new life. You’ve taught me to literally stop and smell the roses. Because of you , I’m more confident in myself as a woman. You’ve given me a new laughter, one that I’ve heard from many other mothers around me, one that comes deep within the soul. All because of you. Conversations are deeper and more raw, because of you. You’ve shown me how long hugs should really last and how often they should come. I’ve grown accustomed to being drooled on, climbed all over on and having my hair pulled out, because of you, but it only reminds me that I’m alive and all is good because I get to be your mom. This Mother’s Day I want nothing but to celebrate you. I love you, Bear.
This post is late but better than never! Amelie now has 4 teeth; two on the top and two on the bottom. She isn’t walking yet but is getting close. She’s starting to mimic everything we say. She knows a few words like hi, mama, dada, bubba, hot, yum and NO! She HATES being told no. She is so smart too. It’s amazing watching her figure out new things.
She hasn’t met a food she doesn’t like except honey dew melon. And we feed her everything! Peruvian, Indian, Creole… she even likes sushi! Her personality is really coming out now too and she is sassy and dramatic! And so social. She waves and smiles at everyone she sees, wherever we are, like a tiny little Miss America. This little lady is going to give us a run for our money!
I can’t believe next month we’ll have a one year old! We are throwing her a huge party. Invites were sent out via facebook but I was able to invite some of the people not on facebook by email. But I’m hearing that some of you may not have received that email so here are the details:
Amelie’s 1st Birthday
Sunday, May 21st at 1pm
14040 N 115th St, Longmont, CO 80504
Food, drinks & desserts will be provided.
Instead of a gift we would like to ask everyone to write a note or letter to Amelie to add to a time capsule for her to open on her 18th birthday. Share your wishes, a memory, some words of advice or even a prediction of what she will be like. Even if you are unable to attend the party, we would love to receive a letter from you to add to the time capsule!

What a crazy month! I am so behind in posting so this may get a bit long. The weather this month has been gorgeous and we have been taking full advantage of it.
Amelie and Siouxsee, a timber wolf that belongs to one of our tenants:
Amelie and Liv:
At the beginning of the month we went bridesmaid dress shopping with Auntie Alyssa, who is getting married in July! Amelie was a huge hit at the bridal shop and enjoyed mucking up all of their mirrors.
We also got Amelie’s first passport pictures done and are in the process of getting her passport processed for our upcoming trip to Mexico.
Then it was Amelie’s first easter! The easter bunny brought her a basket filled with bubbles, bath toys, books and eggs filled with baby snacks.
And let’s not forget the Easter Sloth…
Later in the month we went to the semi-annual Friends of the NRA Banquet. We entered Amelie in the youth raffle and she won a child sized camo .22 rifle! Now she can join her daddy to hunt raccoons on the property when she gets old enough.
Miss Amelie is 10 months old today. It has been a hectic month, with me taking another business trip, a week long boot camp to prepare me for my upcoming PMP certification exam and several appointments & classes related to an upcoming surgery. We have also been hatching and selling chicks and eggs like crazy and Patrick has been building more coops and chicken spaces to keep up with the demand. During all of that, Amelie got her first two teeth. She handled it like a trooper, only really showing any discomfort for a day or two. She also perfected her snark face, which she practices often:
Our little girl is 9 months old! She has grown so much over the past month. She is now fully mobile, able to crawl everywhere and pull herself up to standing on almost anything. She is so fast!! If I take my eyes off of her for a minute I have to go looking for her. We gated off and baby proofed a huge area in the main part of the house for her to roam, allowing her full access to everywhere except for the kitchen side of the island and the rooms off the central part of the house (brew room, front room & bedrooms). She has upwards of 1200 square feet to explore but she still seems to know the second we forget to close one of the baby gates that block off the kitchen side of the island (the part with all the things we’re trying to keep her away from – the floor level open faced cabinets with all our nice glassware, the wood burning stove, dog dishes, etc.) and will turbo crawl her way over to explore the off-limits territory! She also loves to be outside and I can no longer leave the back door cracked open for the dogs to go in and out on nice days because she crawls straight out the back door! The weather has been gorgeous lately and we bring her out back and let her burn off some energy scooting around in her cruiser on the back patio almost every evening. Instagram video link. We also bring her out in her stroller while we feed the chickens and collect eggs every afternoon. Some days we walk over and visit with the neighbor horses. As soon as she can walk she will be our official egg collector!
She is really into Sesame Street, especially Elmo. If I sing the first two words of the theme song… sunny days… she will stop whatever she’s doing and stare expectantly at the TV. Whenever the Elmo letter of the day segment comes on she claps along. She hasn’t quite grasped the concept of waving but she will clap on demand! She also started bopping her head to music this month, which is the cutest thing ever. And if she’s standing up and you sing ‘wiggle it, just a little bit’ or ‘shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake your booty’ she will start moving her butt and dancing along!
She is back to sleeping through the night again and has been sleeping in her crib in her room for the last week. I think the change was easier for her than it was for me! We are looking forward to all the continued changes the next few months will bring!
